Raw foods are becoming increasingly popular. They are full of enzymes and thus the nutrients are easily absorbed.
Some specific benefits of raw desserts are:
-they avoid common allergenic foods like dairy and wheat
-they are made from whole foods
-they provide nutrition compared to conventional desserts which are typically a calorie laden treat
-they don’t require any baking thus quick and ready to eat
This Chocolate Coconut Rounds raw foods recipe is great as it contains 2 super foods! They are cold pressed virgin coconut oil and raw cacao powder. There are many health benefits to coconut oil which include medium chain fatty acids (metabolizes quickly and has therapeutic effects), an increase in your energy expenditure, anti-bacterial/anti-fungal/anti-viral properties, reduction in hunger, improvement in cholesterol levels and many other benefits. A few reasons why cacao is a superfood is because it contains potent antioxidants, essential minerals, vitamins, heart healthy fat, protein and fiber.
Bonus, this recipe doesn’t require any special equipment like a food processor or food dehydrator. All you need is a bowl, a spoon and a non stick surface to let it set up on…we love the Baking Barn silicone mat for this purpose!
